Biography

Artist statement

I am a visual artist, exploring systems of communication and storytelling through collage, assemblage, printmaking, and installation. I recontextualize found material and craft literary devices according to my visual language. I am an archivist, a collector and a curator - from piecing together my reality and personal story through index-card sized vignettes, to analyzing my observations against historical patterns of etymology in an exhibition meant to imitate those of museums. I love the infinite possibilities of open-ended analysis, and I facilitate discussions about the associations that emerge from interpretations of my art. I invite viewers into dialogues and, as a result, to each other.

I was born in Orlando, FL in 1996. My family moved to Homestead in 2000 where I grew up and lived until 2015. Through a childhood of financial struggles, the faith my parents passed onto me has greatly shaped my development and the course of my professional journey. My faith in Christ informs every aspect of my life and is my strongest drive for making art. The years my family spent unemployed and living in others' homes are the root of my work's exploration of my identity through a sense of place and home, as well as change and entropy. Amidst the financial strain of tenuous living situations, I graduated from Design & Architecture Senior High in 2013 and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art from FIU by the end of 2017. I joined PAMM as a Visitor Services Assistant in November 2018 and by August 2019, I joined the Education team as a Teaching Artist. I’ve always been passionate about knowledge, wisdom, and sharing insight with others. I’m surrounded by teachers in my family, all of whom are rich sources of encouragement as I develop as an art educator and mentor.
